and northern latitude situation. seattle and portland seeing some rain, snow at the higher elevations. if anything is a saving grace, it's a little cooler this go-around, so some of the moisture getting locked up in higher elevations in the form of snow. most of that is well north of san francisco and napa valley. this will sink further south, we'll get another piece of energy later on today that will spin up across the bay area and intensify the rainfall. that's what we will be watching closely. our computer models highlight that. one pulse to the north. another one fills in further to the south. it shouldn't be nearly what we saw last week. the ground is saturated. rivers are swollen. it won't take much to get more in the way of flooding. once we get past that, we are looking at a fairly dry scenario going over the next few days. today is the day. then tomorrow we'll hopefully be breathing a sigh of relief. >>> this morning intense fighting in syria outside the city of aleppo. rebel fighters trapped hundreds of government soldiers inside a military base and say they are giving them

rainy into seattle. high elevation snow, a lot of wind. and that cold front will eventually make its way east across the country getting into early next week. but ahead of it look at these numbers! 80 degrees in dallas. we're likely going to set records across the southern plains and upper midwest. then on sunday still mild ahead of this cold front. once you get behind it your temperatures are going to start cooling. chicago if you're heading to magnificent mile, there may be a few showers for you on sunday. across the ohio valley the southeast still warming up into sunday where it's 68 degrees in atlanta, 51 in new york city. but dry for the second half of the weekend. monday here comes that cold front. rainshowers scattered across the upper midwest. that will make its move to the east and eventually change up this beautiful weather across the southeast. new orleans at 73 on tuesday, 70 in atlanta, 60 in louisville. chance of showers, a rumble of thunder. we haven't had a break in the northwest. back-to-back to back storms. the next one will be moving through by the middle of next week.

. five people killed at the seattle cafe in may. there was the aurora massacre in july. 12 people killed, 58 additional people shot who were not killed. the sikh temple pass killing in oak creek, wisconsin, in august. that was the white supremacist guy. six people were killed in that massacre. the gunman was also killed. in september, the minneapolis sign company with the disgruntled employee. five people shot and killed there the wisconsin spa shooting in october, three people dead there plus the shooter. just this week that mall in clackamas, oregon. two dead plus the shooter. that was tuesday of this week. incidents where someone with firearms kills multiple people. these incidents happen a lot in the united states. and we know that. but in ezra's piece today, we see if you put these shootings in an international context, it is even more striking. if you look internationally at the worst mass shooting incidents of the last 50 years, the worst mass shootings in a civilian context that have happened anywhere in the world over the course of the last half century, 15 of the 24 worst mass
francisco and seattle with rain. by monday, the west coast clears out. but here's the little interesting nugget that could happen. on monday, watch what happens here in the gulf. moisture comes up from the gulf, an area of low pressure develops. this is the deep south. birmingham to new orleans to atlanta, could be a wet christmas. rain, not a white one. then we could see this area of low pressure develop, and it's from tuesday to thursday in the mid-atlantic and northeast, we could be looking at another storm. we'll have to keep our eyes on that model. forecast, though, for today, pretty blustery. watching us from the northeast, new york city could see a few snow showers coming down. but the winds are pretty strong. so it's pretty chilly. so some snow in western great lakes. of course, we're seeing that, the lake-effect snow guns firing off. another wet day on the west coast, randi, from seattle to san francisco. another tough travel day there. but this is the end of the line. things begin to clear out. the balance of the country is cold and driempt ay. and the eastern section is windy.

to work? you look at for instance seattle in 1993, they made condoms available in ten high schools through vending machines and baskets and school clinics and a study actually published six years later showed that condom use not only didn't increase, it decreased. how hopeful are you that this will be different in philadelphia? >> i think if you look at condoms as the only intervention, we're not going to see the right end point so condoms are part of a larger intervention, both to raise awareness about safer sex and to provide obviously a tool if young people are interested in being safer in their sexual behavior. what you have to realize is that ten years ago, we had higher rates of condom use among young people than we currently do. at the same time infection has gone up dramatically in the city so while we don't think condoms are the full answer, we believe they are part of the answer and an important part of that answer as we and pa of the health department and people who educate our children in schools need to pay attention to. >> it is an interesting approach. i wish you the best of
